Everyone loves a murder mystery or a whodunit movie, and it's especially fun when it's a comedy whodunnit. While a lot of serious mystery movies have been made, very few comedy whodunnits have been released over the years, and even fewer that are genuinely funny. However, a handful of clever directors have been able to pull off a funny murder mystery. At Top2040, here are the 20 funniest whodunnit movies of all time (comedy whodunnits):

1 - A Shot in the Dark (1964) Peter Sellers is inspector Clouseau in his funniest Pink Panther movie. A classic comedy with some hysterical lines, and some subtle dark humor.

2 - Murder by Death (1976) The best detectives in the world have been assembled in a creepy mansion, locked in, and forced to solve a murder before the night is over. Very funny Neil Simon script with a stellar cast including Truman Capote, Peter Sellers, Eileen Brennan, Peter Falk, and more.



3 - The Pink Panther Strikes Again (1976) Blake Edwards revives the quirky Inspector Clouseau, Peter Sellers with Julie Andrews and Lesley Anne-Down.

4 - Clue (1985) Stars Tim Curry, Eileen Brennan; based on the Clue board game, a colorful group of people are assembled in a mansion, one is murdered, and the others must solve the crime. This clever whodunit movie has 3 separate endings, shown randomly in different cinemas.
 
5 - Fletch (1985) Chevy Chase is a master of disguise, and a crime-solving reporter. Sarcastic and clever, a funny comedy crime thriller.

6 - The Pink Panther (1963) Inspector Clouseau's first murder mystery. David Niven co-stars.

7 - Drowning Mona (2000) Danny DeVito, Bette Midler, and Jamie Lee Curtis. A mean, loud-mouthed woman is killed and everyone is a suspect. DeVito is the cop trying to solve the murder.

8 - Who is Killing the Great Chefs of Europe (1978) Robert Morley, George Segal star in a spoof of the Great Chiefs of Europe.

9 - Scoop (2006) starring Woody Allen, Hugh Jackman and Scarlett Johansson

10 - Compromising Positions (1985) Susas Sarandon is a nosy housewife who thinks she knows of a murder, and tries to solve it herself.

11 - The Naked Gun (1988) Lesley Nielson

12 - The Pink Panther remake (2006) Steve Martin doesn't quite live up to Peter Sellers in this role, but this comedy whodunit remake does have its funny moments.

13 - Fletch Lives (1989)

14 - Careless (2007) odd comedy starring Wiley Roth and Tony Shalhoub (TV's detective Monk)

15 - Return of the Pink Panther (1975)

16 - Once Upon a Crime (1992) A Eugene Levy movie starring John Candy, Jim Belushi and Richard Lewis.

17 - Lady on A Train (1945) A woman thinks she saw a murder and enlists the help of a crime novelist to help her solve the crime.

18 - Radioland Murders (1994) "who done it" in a 1930s radio station.

19 - Sunset (1988) Blake Edwards directs, Bruce Willis and James Garner

20 - Who Done It? (1945) Bud Abbot & Lou Costello, slapstick and comic banter, as the guys try to solve a whodunit mystery.
