Action Movies without Guns

Guns are a sensitive topic these days, and parents may not want to let their kids watch movies with guns in them, at least at a young age.  However, that may limit you to comedies and animations.  We all gravitate to fast action movies. So how can we find action films without guns, pistols and modern weapons? It's not easy. This was the hardest list Top2040 had to assemble.  We did manage to find a few. Action movies will always have violence, but at least these movies don't point a gun at anyone's head. The top 10 movies without guns.

1 - Bunraku (2010) In a world without guns, three people must band together to take down the evil leader of their realm.

2 - Conan the Barbarian (1982) There are swords, fighting, and giant snakes, but no guns. The violence has a purpose and is kept only to where it's needed to move the story forward.

3 - The Hobbit : Battle of the Five Armies (2014) Lots of action, a dragon, and loads of spears, arrows and swords. But no guns.

4 - Mission: Impossible (1996) Tom Cruise as Ethan Hunt never fires a gun. He shoots no one, but there's plenty of action.

5 - Thor: The Dark World (2013) A hammer is his weapon of choice.

6 - Time Bandits (1981) From the Monty Python crew, a time-travelling action film an audience of any age can enjoy. There is background gun fire at the Battle of Castelion in the 1700s, but no one is shot.

7 - Children of Men (2006) A struggle for the survival of Earth with action, drama, and no one being shot.

8 - Oldboy (2003 Korea), remade in the US in 2013.  A man is held prisoner in a room for 15 years, but he doesn't know why. When he is released, he must find out why. There is action, but no gunfire.

9 - The Bourne Ultimatum (2007 ) There are a couple of guns fired in the air, but Jason Bourne never touches a gun, never fires a shot.

10 - Tron (1982) A man goes inside a video game and fights to survive. There's action and motorcycle races, and glowing disc are thrown. Lasers are fired (yes they look a bit like guns), but no one is killed by them.

Jaws (1975) In fact there is a gun fired at the shark, but at least it wasn't fired at any people. That has to count for something, and this makes it a parent's next best choice.

Weapons are drawn in the background of Speed (1994) with Keanu Reeves, but the "out of control" bus is the main weapon here.
The same for Unstoppable (2010) except with a fast train.

Captain America: The Winter Soldier (2014) has minimal guns, and is mostly hand to hand combat.

In Star Trek IV: The Voyage Home, phasers and guns are pointed at people, but never fired.

Ong Bak is a good Thai action movie, with only "hand" combat here, too.

The House of Flying Daggers, and many other swordplay movies also fit the bill, albeit a bit violent for kids.

Alien (1979) Scary and filled with action, even a bit violent, but technically no one shoots another person.  In one scene an alien bug is zapped with a laser.

The James Bond movies do have guns, but they are rarely used, and are never pointed at anyone's head.

In some cases guns are shown in side holsters or the background, but none of these movies point a gun or shoot a gun directly at any characters, and no one dies from gunfire.  No guns were fired at people, and no one was harmed in the making of this list of the best movies without guns.
