The Top2040 Official "Killer Plant" Movie List:

- Day of the Triffids (1962) Alien plants have landed on Earth, blinding most people on the planet. The triffids move and grow, feeding on humans and animals. The main characters find an island and try to fight back. These are gruesome plants - able to blind, and then eat their victims. Classic film! This also appears in our list of the Best SF Post Apoc Books

- Little Shop of Horrors (1986) Rick Moranis, Steve Martin. This musical about a mean green killer plant from outer space, is based on a 1960 horror movie. The plant needs to eat fresh meat to survive.

- The Evil Dead (1981) Starring Bruce Campbell. Some evil trees menace the protagonists.

- Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers (2002) The Ents were only "killer trees" from Saruman's point of view. For us, they are giant lumbering "good guys" in the form of trees.

- Invasion of the Body Snatchers (1956 and 1978) Plant pods from space fall on Earth and start to replace humans. The pods grow into replicas of their human victims.

- The Happening (2008) All of Earth's plants, trees, grass, and shrubs suddenly begin defending the planet against the abuse of humans.

- Poltergeist (1982) An evil tree breaks into the upstairs bedroom and grabs a kid.

- Creepshow 2 (1987) An animated Venus fly trap goes on a killing spree.

- Godzilla vs. Biollante (1989) Gozira takes on the biggest, and prettiest killer plant on our list. Biollante is a giant rose with teeth inside her buds.

- Venus Flytrap (1970, aka The Revenge of Dr. X) An interesting B-movie about a scientist who turns carnivorous plants into man-eaters.

- Attack of the Killer Tomatoes (1978) Comedy horror, when vegetables go bad.

- Swamp Thing (1982) A mad scientist combines plant and animal cells in his lab. When a man tries to stop him, he gets overdosed on the serum and becomes a plant-man, or swamp thing! He becomes more of a superhero than a villain, but he qualifies as an overachieving plant.

- Man Eater of Hydra (1967) A mad scientist turns plants into killers (very plastic props).

- The Crawlers (1990) Alaska is terrorized by killer tree roots!

- The Ruins (2008) evil vines go after young campers.

- The Mutations (1974) The hokiest looking evil plants on the list!

- The Guardian (1990) gnarled tree roots gone bad!

Those are the coolest cucumbers to ever hit the big screen! So how do you fight back against a killer plant? Here's one idea:
"Wacko," a 1982 movie about a killer Lawnmower!  It trumps a killer plant any day, but it's no match for a killer tree.
