Top 20 Quotes from Horror Movies

The best and most memorable lines from horror movies over the past 75 years. The top 20 horror movie quotes, the best and baddest lines on the silver screen. We haven't collected them all, but here are the lines we liked most.

- "Yeah, they're dead. They're all messed up."  Night of the Living Dead (1968), the sheriff is interviewed in the film for a fictional TV station and quotes our top pick. That line was awesome. Of vourse there is also the famous line in the cemetery... "They're coming to get you, Barbara..."

-  "Sometimes, dead is better." Pet Sematary.  Taken from Stephen King's novel, this is one of the best horror quotes from both books and movies, especially as recited by Fred Gwynne in the film. Brilliant!

- "They're here." Poltergeist, spoken by the little girl in front of the TV.

- "I'll pray I never have to call you.... sure." The Lost Boys. Sam (Corey Haim) says this to the Frog brothers.

- "Here's Johnny!" The Shining. Quoted by Jack Nicholson, Stephen King gets on here again.

- "Kill her, mommy, kill her." The original Friday the 13th.

- "You can't kill the boogeyman!" Young Tommy from the original Halloween (1978).

- Jamie Lee Curtis: "It was the boogeyman."  Donald Pleasance: "As a matter of fact, it was." Also from Halloween (1978)

- "We have such sights to show you!" Pinhead in Hellraiser

- "But it is told by the fishermen, and their fathers and grandfathers, that when the fog returns to Antonio Bay, the men at the bottom of the sea, out in the water by Spivey Point will rise up and search for the campfire that led them to their dark, icy death." Mr. Machen's story at the beginning of John Carpenter's The Fog (1980) is priceless, even if it is long.

- "I see dead people." The Sixth Sense

- "A census taker once tried to test me. I ate his liver with some fava beans and a nice Chianti.” Dr. Lechter says this in Silence of the Lambs. Technically not a horror movie, but fits somewhere between serial killer/suspense/horror, so it gets included nonetheless.

-  "I got a bone to pick with you." Army of Darkness

- "I'm gonna give you a piece of my mind." The Howling (1981) Eddie Quist says this as he pulls a piece of his brain off his own head.

- "Is he dead?" ... "They never are." Jeepers Creepers

- “You know that part in scary movies when somebody does something really stupid and everyone hates them for it? This is it.” Also from Jeepers Creepers

- "It's what you want, Ed Harley..."  The old witch in Pumpkinhead. That line, her voice.... immortal.

-  "What an excellent day for an exorcism." The Exorcist (1973)

- "You're gonna need a bigger boat." This is the best line from Jaws. You're right, JAWS is not a horror movie. But it's close to one, so we will slip this past you, too.

- "There are no crazy people, doctor, we're all just on vacation." Jack Palance in Alone in the Dark (1982).

Honorable Mention:
Especially creepy is the child's voice, barely perceptible in The Changeling (1980).  "Joseph...."

Now get back out there and enjoy some classic horror films, quotes and all.
